A. I like singers who can sing well in multiple genres like Ray Charles and Delbert McClinton. I also like soulful singers like Otis Redding and George Jones. My favorite female singers are Aretha Franklin, Etta James, and Lavelle White.
Q. Who are your favorite songwriters?
A. I like Bob Dylan who writes in multiple genres, covers a wide range of subject matter, and can be direct or obscure. I like Hank Williams who needs no interpretation and speaks to anyone with a heart. I also like John Prine who can say so much within a couple lines like “we used to laugh together and we’d dance to any old song, you know, she still laughs with me, but she waits just a second too long”.
